The International Council of Jurists honoured UK Attorney General Dominic Grieve with a plaque in recognition of his contribution to the cause of justice around the world.
The Council, presided over by All India Bar Association chairman Adish C Aggarwala, presented him with the honour at the annual International Jurists Awards held here yesterday.
"My role as Attorney General is at the cusp of both politics and law, which is not always the easiest point of contact.
The aim of any government should be to uphold the rule of law and this council has a lot to offer on a number of different topics that address the global nature of the challenges we face today, such as terrorism, drug trafficking and fraud," Grieve, a barrister and senior Conservative party MP, said in his acceptance speech at the International Jurists Conference 2013.
The council also recognised the work of Lord Brian Gill, Lord President and Lord Justice General of Scotland, for his "life-long unique contribution in the field of administration of justice".
"He has made an exemplary and far-reaching contribution to the theory and practice of law for the advancement of justice," the award citation reads.

"Judicial independence goes hand-in-hand with judicial integrity and access to justice must be equal for all. I have lived my life in the law and it has been a very enjoyable and fulfilling experience," Lord Gill said.
The other award winners for 2013 included Justice Susan Gageby Denham, the Chief Justice of Ireland, for her contribution to the machinery of dispensation of justice; Christiane Feral-Schuhl, president of the Paris Bar Association, for her pivotal role in the affairs of the legal fraternity around the world; and Rajiv Luthra, founder and managing partner of leading Indian law firm Luthra & Luthra for his immense contribution towards international cross-border transactions and banking and finance law in India.
The International Council of Jurists, which hosts its conference and awards in London every year, is a body of jurists from across the globe working towards the healthy development of law, in line with the social and economic needs of the people.
This year's conference covered internationally sensitive issues such as drug trafficking, intellectual property rights and terrorism.
"Through these highly interactive working sessions and discussions we have come across several eye-opening facts and practical solutions to problems that we face. The ideas have been set out, the solutions have been proposed. The important thing now is to implement them," said Aggarwala in his concluding remarks at the conference.
