UK Court finds 2 South Asian men guilty of match-fixing

Two men of South Asian origin were today found guilty of fixing matches in lower division leagues of English football.
Singapore national Chann Sankaran (33) and Krishna Sanjey Ganeshan (43), who has dual British and Singapore nationality, have been convicted of conspiracy to commit bribery following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
Sankaran and Ganeshan's scam centered on plans to fix matches in the lower division leagues.
The UK plot was uncovered following an undercover investigation by British daily 'The Telegraph' in which a Singaporean fixer was secretly filmed claiming to be able to fix matches for 70,000 pound.
The information contained in the dossier was passed on to the National Crime Agency (NCA) - the British version of the FBI - which launched its own investigations, culminating in today's conviction.

The jurors cleared former Whitehawk FC footballer Hakeem Adelakun of the same charge. He had told the jury he knew nothing about any plot to fix matches.
Deliberations, however, will continue in relation to two other footballers, Michael Boateng (22) and Moses Swaibu (23), also former Whitehawk players.
