The UK today marked the International Day of Yoga with a series of yoga sessions attended by members of the Indian diaspora and the wider public.
The day began with a yoga session at the Indian High Commission in London, followed by a special event in the UK Parliament complex.
"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being," said Charlie Yoga, which is organising a special session at Vaxhaul Park in London this evening.
"It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day," it added.
However, most of the UK's International Day of Yoga (IDY) events are planned for the weekend, including a two mega yoga sessions led by yoga guru Ramdev in London on Saturday.
Earlier this month, Incredible India had hosted a special open-air Yoga session to mark IDY at the UNESCO heritage site of Stonehenge the first-of-its-kind event organised on June 7.
Yoga practitioners, including Indian deputy high commissioner to the UK Dinesh Patnaik, performed yoga up in front of the world-famous monument, starting with a Surya Namaskar.
