The file related to the appointment of the ombudsman was returned to the state government last week, official sources here said.
This is for the second time in less than two months that the file related to the appointment of a Lokayukta has been returned by the Raj Bhawan, they said.
The Governor's office had returned the file to the state government on August 25, directing the latter to resume the process with "strict adherence to rules and statutes."
The appointment of Lokayukta in the state has been hanging fire for quite some time despite the fact that the state Assembly had passed a Lokayukta bill during Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri's tenure as chief minister in 2011 itself. It had also been given presidential assent.
However, the state assembly passed another Lokayukta bill during Vijay Bahuguna's time citing flaws in the earlier legislation.
