Two people, including the town planner of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) who demanded and accepted bribes from a local resident have been arrested by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), ACB sources said here today.
Superintendent of Police (ACB) Sandeep Karnik told PTI today that arrested UMC town planner Manoj Tarani (49) and UMC junior engineer Sanjay Pawar (42) allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from a complainant who had sought a land benefit certificate for his house from the UMC.
The aggrieved complainant lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of the ACB which laid a trap and caught the duo accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe at Bholanath Nastha House, last night, ACB sources said.
An offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the local police station against the duo, the ACB said.
It may be recalled that just a day prior to this development, the ACB had arrested a corporator of the Nationalist Congress Party for allegedly accepting Rs 25,000 as a bribe for giving permission to a local resident to add rooms to his existing house.
