UN official updates Assam CM on special UN initiatives

Special programmes will be observed in Assam coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the United Nations Organisation this year, a UN official conveyed to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here.
United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan National Information Officer Rajiv Chandran and UN Resource Centre, North East Executive Director Dr Aswini Sarma met Gogoi late last evening and apprised him about the special programmes.
Chandran informed that a UN library at Jorhat would also be inaugurated in the second week of June and workshop cum training by UN officials would also be organised in Guwahati for librarians of 13 UN libraries.
The foundation stone of the Sonapur UN Resource Centre, NER, would be laid in September followed by an exhibition on the 70th anniversary of the UN in Guwahati in October next, he said.
On the request of Chandran, the Chief Minister consented to lay the foundation stone of Sonapur UN Resource Centre, inaugurate the newly constructed UN library at Jorhat and the workshop of UN librarians in Guwahati.
Appreciating the different initiatives of the UN in Assam, Gogoi hoped they would inspire and motivate the young generation to acquire new and innovative ideas to cope up with the new challenges in the fast changing world.
