UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the appointment of an interim election government in Nepal, which he said had ended the protracted stalemate in the Himalayan nation.
Ban urged all actors to create a conducive environment for the next elections and to maintain the momentum to implement the outstanding commitments of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, his spokesperson said in a statement.
The visit to Nepal from March 19 to 21 by the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, will be an opportunity to express the continued commitment of the UN to cooperate closely with Nepal in support of progress in the peace process, the statement said.
Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi was yesterday sworn-in as Nepal's new Prime Minister to head an interim government that will hold elections by June 21, ending months of political and constitutional crisis in the country.
