There is uncertainty over RBI Governor Urjit Patel's visit to the West Bengal secretariat to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, scheduled for tomorrow.
According to a highly-placed source in the CMO, there is no mention of Patel's visit on the list of guests scheduled to meet Banerjee.
In fact, Patel avoided taking the convoy provided by the state government at the city airport this evening and went straight to the hotel on a vehicle arranged by his office.
Patel is here to attend the RBI's central board meeting tomorrow.
"We have not received any intimation from the RBI Governor's office regarding any cancellation of his visit to Nabanna," the senior official said, adding that as per schedule Patel is scheduled to pay a visit to Banerjee in the afternoon.
Banerjee has recently criticised Patel for being silent on people's suffering due to the Centre's demonetisation move.
Even this evening Banerjee posted a strong message on her Twitter handle: "I demand the RBI restore payments by our government through our DMs immediately and continue till 03-17. Our hungry teagarden workers are dying due to NoteBandi."
As per the earlier schedule, State Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra were to meet Patel and accompany him to the state secretariat tomorrow afternoon.
