Security personnel went into a tizzy today after an unclaimed bag was detected near Haridwar railway station, two days after four youths with suspected terror links were arrested in the state.
However, nothing dangerous was found in the bag, police officials said.
Security personnel and a bomb squad rushed to the spot immediately after being tipped off by shopkeepers in the area who first sighted the bag.
They opened it but no explosive material was found inside it, DIG Garhwal Sanjay Gunjyal said.
"A bottle of Ganga jal and a few pieces of clothing was all that was found inside it," Haridwar SSP Senthil Abudai Krishna Raj told PTI on the phone from the spot.
"With the arrest of four terror suspects from the district on Tuesday we are leaving nothing to chance and maintaining a constant watch," he said.
The bag was found outside the railway station premises, the SSP clarified.
