Uncle, nephew arrested for rape, murder of 4-yr-old girl

A man and his nephew were arrested today in connection with the rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl here, police said.
Neeraj Gope, a plumber, and his nephew Sunny Gope were arrested for raping and strangulating the girl before dumping the body in a pond on the night of August 16, Senior SP Anoop T Mathew said.
Mathew, accompanied by SP (City) Prasant Anand, told reporters that Neeraj and Sunny were living as tenants in the victim's house at Sidgora locality here for the last three years.
They were forced to vacate the house after Neeraj failed to pay the rent for several months, Anand said, adding angered by the landlord's action Sunny lured the girl to a vacant house and raped her.

Mathew said after committing the crime, the duo throttled her to death and dumped the body in a nearby pond. The floating body was recovered two days later.
After an FIR was filed, police detained Neeraj and Sunny for interrogation during which they confessed their crime, Mathew said.
