Devastated with crop failure for the last three years, a farmer in Ner tehsil here allegedly committed suicide and narrated his ordeal to the government authority in three separate suicide notes.

Ner tehsil comes under Assembly segment of District Guardian minister Sanjay Rathod where over 60 suicides have been reported since January this year.

Vishal Namdev Pawar (38), resident of Marwadi village, was dejected over crop failure for the last three years and was under pressure to repay loan amount, a senior official said.

Residential deputy collector, Yavatmal, Rajesh Khawle told PTI that according to the family members of the deceased, he had left home yesterday morning and did not return by night.

The family members then launched a search and found his belongings like clothes, mobile phone and three separate letters near a well.

They informed police and the body was fished out of the well late last night.

The officer said that three separate suicide notes (letters) addressed to the guardian minister, bank manager and deceased's father, respectively, were recovered from the site.

In the letter addressed to Rathod, Vishal requested for total waiver of loan, while he requested the bank manager to waive off the loan, Khawle said.

A case of accidental death has been lodged with Ner Police Station and investigations are on, the officer said.

He said a team of Revenue officials will conduct a panchnama and submit their report to the district collector.

The collector will then forward it to the department concerned for the disbursement of ex-gratia in farmer suicide cases.

According to deceased's father, Namdev Pawar, Vishal had taken a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh from Ner-based co-operative credit society and Rs 70,000 from a private money lender, which he could not repay due to crop loss.

Pawar said Vishal had invested the loan amount in farming activities but yield was not adequate to repay the loan sum.
