An inmate of Tihar jail suffered severe cuts on his face when he was allegedly attacked with sharp objects inside the high-security prison, police said.
Gulshan, a 21-year-old undertrial, was attacked by two other prisoners with blades on Wednesday afternoon, police said, adding that he was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital for treatment, from where he has now been brought back to the jail after being declared out of danger.
A resident of Raghubir Nagar area, Gulshan was arrested in a case of assault registered at Rajouri Garden police station and was lodged in cell No.4 at the jail on April 27.
He was attacked in a dispute that was rooted in one upmanship among the prisoners, said a senior police officer.
According to police, Gulshan in his complaint said that he was threatened by two brothers -- Balram and Sippy -- soon after entering the jail that he would be attacked with a blade if he crossed their path.
Gulshan was attacked by two prisoners and he suspects that his attackers were sent by the Balram and Sippy, police said.
