The relatives alleged police was responsible for the death of Narinder and accused them of registering a "false case" against him.
The police said that he was arrested after drugs were seized from his possession and was later produced to a local court which remanded him to judicial custody at Ambala Central Jail.
He fell sick on May 4 and was admitted to the civil hospital by jail authorities, they said.
Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate Neha Yadav recorded the statement of the relatives and the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
