A 30-year-old undertrial in the judicial custody escaped from the district hospital here last night after pushing the police guards on duty, an officer said today.
Following the incident, police today suspended five police personnel for dereliction of duty.
The undertrial Arvind Rawat, arrested on the charges of dacoity and attempt to murder, was admitted in the hospital on July 9 for chest pains, said Superintendent of Police Irshad Wali.
Narrating the sequence of events of the last night, the officer said Rawat asked the five police personnel on duty to open his handcuffs saying he wanted to use toilet.
"As soon as his handcuffs were opened, he pushed the policemen and ran away," the SP said, adding that Rawat was shifted to the Datia Prison on April 14 this year from another jail in the state.
Police have registered a case and efforts are on to trace Rawat.
