Police said he was brought to Bengaluru from Morocco and immediately taken to Belagavi.
Raja, wanted in around 44 cases in Karnataka, including that of extortion, 'hafta' collection, threatening and murders through his associates, was brought by a plane to Belagavi from Bengaluru around 7.15 PM under tight security.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said he was booked under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act.
Since Raja was required by Udupi police, principal district judge Krishna Bhat remanded him to police custody till August 28.
Raja hails from Malpe in Udupi district, and started his activities there. He possessed fake passports in three different names.
Raja was arrested in February in Morocco and officials there had informed India about his arrest. He is also wanted by Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and other states' police.
