The 'international centre for human development' will be set up with the active support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Indian Institute of Advance Study (IIAS), an agreement of which was signed here today.
"We are delighted to be partnering with UNDP in launching the centre which will provide valuable support to efforts of governments to collectively share, learn and realise the objectives of human development," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said at the MoU signing function.
The agreement was signed between UN resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative, India, Lisa Grande and IIAS director Peter R deSouza.
"The centre will provide policy advisory services based on national and international evidence to ensure that human development concerns become integral to planning processes and policy making," a UNDP statement said.
The human development approach was pioneered by UNDP in early 1990s.
According to deSouza, the centre will provide a range of services to governments and will be guided by the objective of translating the analysis of human development reporting to policy inputs and practices that can help advance human development.
