Two unidentified miscreants in an inebriated condition allegedly ran amok and shot dead an assistant sub inspector (ASI) and injured three others here, a senior police official said today.
Accused started their shooting spree from a general store last night when they shot and injured a shop owner Anup Goyal after he asked them for money for cigarettes at Vinay Nagar under Bahoripura police station area, Inspector General (IG) Adarsh Katiyar said.
He said that the assailants also shot and injured one S S Chouhan, who came to the rescue of Goyal.
Goyal sustained bullet injury on his chest while Chouhan suffered a wound to his arm.
Thereafter, the accused stormed into a police post housed in an Ashram and after an altercation, fired four rounds at ASI R K Gautam. The ASI died in the attack sustaining injuries in chest and face, the IG said.
Miscreants fled away with Gautam's service revolver, he added.

After assaulting the policeman, the duo went to a medical store- Satya Sai Baba and asked for a cough syrup with high alcohol content from two Robin and Himanshu - both brothers looking after the shop.
While the two were looking for the syrup, angry over the delay, the miscreants shot and injured Robin, the IG said, adding, soon after the attack police encircled the city.
It is suspected that the accused were locals as they instead of using the main thoroughfares used narrow lanes to escape. The accused were high on drugs and in need for more intoxicants, they went on the shooting spree, he said.
The IG said that those injured are being treated in a hospital and a massive manhunt was on to nab the miscreants.
