The Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) Ministry will increase schemes for Arunachal Pradesh in the current financial year and also expedite the release of funds for the state, minister Dr Girija Vyas said today.
Vyas conveyed her ministry's stand to Arunachal Chief Minister Nabam Tuki when he called on the former in New Delhi today, official sources said here.
The duo discussed the status of projects under various HUPA schemes related to the state with Tuki apprising Vyas about the recent formation of municipalities in the state.
He stressed on the need to streamline projects through these bodies to address the concerns of the population in urban areas and called for an integrated approach to urban development through proper planning under flagship UPA programmes.
Vyas acknowledged that Arunachal had been a consistent performer in the urban development sector among North-Eastern states and said that was the reason why her department had mooted new schemes for it.
The Arunachal CM was accompanied, among others, by Parliamentary Secretary (Planning), Nabam Rebia.
