Union Home Secy meets Governor, CM

Rushed here after the killing of a young Kashmiri Army officer, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi today held discussions with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on the security situation in the Valley and the borders.
Mehrishi arrived here this morning, a day after militants killed Lt Ummer Fayaz in his native Shopian district of south Kashmir after abducting from a wedding function the officer who was on leave and unarmed.
"The Governor and the Home Secretary held extensive discussions about issues relating to effective maintenance of law and order," a Raj Bhawan spokesman said.
Vohra and Mehrishi also discussed matters relating to the security situation along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC), increasing infiltration attempts and the growing incidents of terrorism in the valley, the spokesman said.
Earlier, Mehrishi met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here and discussed the overall security situation in the state.
"During the meeting, the Home Secretary discussed the overall situation in the state with the Chief Minister," an official spokesman said.

In the evening, the home secretary was briefed by security and police officials about the situation in the Valley.
The officials apprised Mehrishi about the steps taken to restore normality in the Valley which has been rocked by student protests over the past one month.
Weapon-snatching incidents and bank robberies were also discussed, officials said.
Security arrangements for forthcoming Amaranth yatra were also deliberated upon.
