Unit-I of thermal power station will be commissioned soon: NLC

The units are expected to be commissioned during 2017 and 2018

The first unit of the thermal power station-II expansion project has reached the full load and would be commissioned by this month end, a top Neyveli Lignite Corporation official said today.

NLC, Chairman and Managing Director, Surender Mohan, in his Republic Day address after hoisting the national flag here, said the thermal power station-II expansion project's Unit-I has reached full load on January 6. "The first Unit will be commissioned by this month end."

Also, 2 x 500 MW units of NTPL thermal power project is expected to be commissioned after obtaining the approval of the Ministries concerned.

As regards Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (2 x 500 MW), a replacement of the existing thermal power station-I, contracts were awarded for all the three major packages and project activities have commenced.

"The units are expected to be commissioned during 2017 and 2018,"he said.

Out of the 51 MW wind power project in Tirunelveli district, 34 wind turbines have been commissioned so far, he said.

"Also, land for the 3 x 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project at Uttar Pradesh has been acquired."

The top NLC official outlined the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives as well.

NLC has proposals to provide 2500 toilets in 27 districts of Tamil Nadu and two districts of Rajasthan at an expenditure of Rs 52.5 crore and these are expected to be completed within a year.
