Though the rectification works in the first unit were completed in February this year, it could not attain stabilised operation till date due to a 'recurring technical problem', NLC Chairman B Surendra Mohan said.
"This has resulted in delay in commissioning of the unit and now it is anticipated that Unit-I will be commissioned within this month and Unit-II in October 2014," he said.
In his address after unfurling the Indian tricolour on the occasion of Independence Day at Neyveli in this district, Mohan also expressed anticipation that Unit-I of 2x500 mw joint venture with NTPL at Tuticorin will be commissioned this month and the second unit in October this year.
"Contracts for the three major packages have already been awarded for a total value of Rs 4751 crore and project activities are gaining momentum," he said.

Mohan said 2013-14 was 'eventful and record-breaking' for NLC both in terms of production and finances.
The PSU had achieved its highest total income of Rs 6992 crore, registering a growth of 13.27 per cent against the previous financial year, he said.
Net profit was at an 'all-time high' of Rs 1501.88 crore, Rs 42.13 crore more than what NLC had achieved in 2012-13.
