University of Hyderabad, also known as Hyderabad Central University, will mentor the Central University of Andhra Pradesh which is proposed to be set up in Jantharalu village of Anantpur district.
"The Ministry of Human Resource Development has communicated the setting up of a Central University of Andhra Pradesh and has also decided that the University of Hyderabad will mentor the activities of the proposed university till the amendment to the Central Universities Act of 2009 is effected," a press release said here today.
The role of mentor includes formation of society under the Societies Act to ensure the start of academic activities from this year, identify courses that can be introduced and estimation of cost for running the university for the first year among others, it said.
The Andhra Pradesh government has identified a temporary campus for the university.
Registrar of University of Hyderabad P Sardar Singh would liaise with the Andhra Pradesh government for the institutional mechanism while Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad professor Appa Rao Podile would consult academic units and determine logistics and feasibility of launching a few academic programmes and the human and financial resources needed, the release added.
