The 175-year-old University of Westminster is re-emerging as a major player internationally, its Chancellor and leading NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul has said.
Speaking at the annual alumni reception of the University at the Ambika exhibition hall here last night, Lord Paul said the University has a long and proud history.
"This year we celebrate our 175th Anniversary. Founded in 1838 as the Polytechnic Institution, we became Britain's model Polytechnic. Today, the University is re-emerging as a major player in London and internationally," he said.
"Throughout our history, the institution has enjoyed international impact. There was an international alumni list from the early 1900s. Today, our alumni reach into 199 countries and territories and we have bases in Delhi and Beijing to support our alumni networks, as well as to develop institutional partnerships, and drive student recruitment," he said.
Lord Paul said the corporate mission of the university is one of excellence, creativity and innovation for the benefit of wider society, and we celebrate our continuing success in widening participation.
"Internationalism, employability and green-thinking are being embedded in all we do. We have a confident and exciting vision. Achieving stakeholder engagement is fundamental to our future progress," he noted.
