Unorganised sector workers hold protest in Thane

Thousands of workers in the unorganised sector today held a protest at the district collectorate here to press for their demands, including that of implementation of pension scheme and food security scheme.
The protest organised by Communist Party of India (CPI), AITUC, Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha, and other organisations. A delegation met the District Collector P Velrasu and submitted a memorandum to him listing their demands.
They demanded immediate implementation of the -pension scheme with the minimum pension amount of Rs 3,000 to be provided to all the workers in the unorganised sector.
They also demanded the benefit of the Union Government's food security scheme.
Some of their other demands included free medical benefits for the domestic workers, maternity benefit for the female workers and setting up of an independent board for the powerloom workers and rickshaw drivers.
