Getting a seat in the United Nations Security Council should not be a high priority for India, a former top diplomat has said.
"I don't think it should be a high priority for India. We have wasted enough time in this already," Krishnan Srinivasan, former Foreign Secretary of India, said at a discussion here today.
He said the issue was so complicated that it was postponed year after year at the UN.
"Permanent membership of the UNSC without veto is not so attractive that we should spent time on it," he said.
United Nations Information Centre director Kiran Mehra Kerpelman said the discussion on UN in India was always related to the UNSC seat.
"Many complain that the UN only talks, but talking is better than bombing," she said.
