Unscheduled power cuts add to summer woes in Kanpur
Press Trust of India Kanpur Unscheduled power outages up to as much as 12 hours a day, coupled with rising mercury, have added to the summer woes of people in Kanpur, with college students suffering the most at a time when exams are around.
Kanpur, represented in the Parliament by Union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, has been subject to erratic power supply for years, says local MLA Salil Bishnoi.
"People pinned their hopes on the new government, but there is hardly any improvement in the situation," Bishnoi says.
The power officials blame this load shedding on a number of factors, including technical glitches and low power output, he adds.
Vineeta Dwivedi, a teacher by profession, says with examinations around, the students are proving to be the worst sufferers of power cuts.
