Unseeded Sidharth Rawat ousted second seeded Olympian Vishnu Varadan with relative ease winning at 6-4 6-1 to progress to the quarterfinals of the Justice P S Kailasam Centenary GNC ITF Men's Futures Tennis tournament here at the Gandhi Nagar Club courts today.
The quarterfinal line up will feature top seed Vijay Sundar Prashanth taking on Prajnesh while third seed Mukund Sasikumar will be pitted against Junior Wimbledon doubles champion Sumit Nagal while Bowen Quyang of China will take on former Davis Cupper VM Ranjeet. Rawat will meet Turkmenistan's Isa Mammetgulyyev.
Sidharth started positively by breaking Vishnu's serve in the early stage of both sets and remained in the driver's seat throughout the match. Vishnu on the other hand was out of sorts and made a number of unforced errors allowing Sidharth a straight set victory.
Top Seed, Prashanth managed to stave off a stiff challenge from 16 year old Vasisht Cheruku in the seventh game of the first set when he was down two break points. Vijay's experience came to the fore as he held serve to lead 4-3.
Vasisht held serve to love to make it 4 all. Vijay then held serve confidently to lead 5-4. In the 10th game, Vijay returned brilliantly to break Vasisht's serve and take the set 6-4.
In the second set Vasisht crumbled completely while Vijay gained confidence to score a 6-4 6-0 win. Fourth seeded Ranjeeth, who played an embarrassing and forgettable Davis Cup tie against South Korea couple of years ago showed that he is still good at the national level as he made short work of eighth seed teenager Manish Sureshkumar wining 6-0 6-3.
In a match between two Chinese players, Bowen Ouyang overcame a first set loss to win 5-7 6-1 6-4 against Aoran Wang, while Mukund Sasikumar fresh from his Junior Commonwealth Games triumph outplayed Vignesh Veerabhadran to win 6-4, 6-3.
Mammetgulyyev of Turkenmenistan rallied brilliantly to get the better of fifth seeded Mohit Mayur 2-6, 7-6(3) 6-3.
