The ambitious proposal for unemployment allowance, a brainchild of his father and then chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, grabbed the lion's share among all these schemes with an allotment of Rs 1100 crore, followed by Rs 446.35 crore for Kanya Vidyadhan Yojna aimed to encourage higher education among girls.

The Loktantra Senani Yojna, which makes provision for honorarium, free medical facility and free travel in UPSRTC buses to those jailed during the Emergency, was also revived with allocation of a sum of Rs 11 crore, Rs 8.80 crore more than the earlier SP government.

The prize money for "Yash Bharti Samman", meant to honour talents from the state earning laurels at national and international level, has also been enhanced to Rs 11 lakh from Rs 5 lakh.

A sum of Rs 47.83 crore has also been allocated for the Bhomi Sena Yojna for making barren land cultivable and allotting it to the landless and poor.

Keeping up with his party's election promise, Akhilesh also promised to bring a new land acquisition policy for the benefit of farmers in the budget, apart from provisions for a number of schemes named after Socialist thinker Ram Manohar Lohia.

The schemes are Ram Manohar Lohia Samagra Gram Vikas Yojna, Lohia Nalkoop Yojna, Lohia Gramin Avas Yojna and Lohia environmental parks in different districts. (MORE)
