Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release urea for farmers in keeping with the state's demand and for meeting production targets.
In a letter written to the PM today, the chief minister said there is an immediate requirement of 8.50 lakh metric tonnes urea and requested for providing it this month itself, an official release issued here said.
Yadav said that for fertilisers, the state is dependent on the allocation by the central government and release of urea, and fertilisers in lesser quantity than what is required or its late supply caused immense problems for farmers.
The chief minister also stated that against the demand of 38 lakh metric tonnes this year, only 35 lakh metric tonnes urea has been allocated.
