UP Assembly Speaker today allowed an hour-long discussion on alleged irregularities in contract allotment for purchase of nutritious supplement for women and children worth Rs 2,000 crore under the Anganwadi scheme in 2011-2012.
Raising the matter through an adjournment notice in the Zero Hour, Hukum Singh of BJP alleged that three separate tenders were filed by one person who owned three firms registered on the same address and the contract was allotted for Rs 2000 crores.
Singh said that something like 'sattu' was supplied in the name of nutritious supplement which was not fit for consumption of either women or children and it should be discussed in the house.
When the state minister for basic education, Ram Govind Chaudhary, said Centre and the Supreme Court have issued detailed guidelines to this effect, Singh alleged that they were not followed.
Though the Speaker, Mata Prasad Pandey, rejected the adjournment notice, he allowed one-hour discussion in the House and the day and time of which would be decided later.
The Speaker also directed the government to give a statement in the House on the double murder of a trader Durvasa Gupta and his son in Gorakhpur last night after the matter came up in the House through another adjournment notice by Leader of Opposition and BSP legislator, Swami Prasad Maurya.
Maurya claimed that there was discontent among the traders of the town following the gunning down of the two by miscreants, allegedly after the duo had refused to give them goods on loan.
