UP: Cabinet nod to amending tree felling norms

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet today gave its nod to easing the norms related to the felling of trees by farmers.
"As per the UP Protection of Trees Act, 1976, felling of trees on private land in 62 districts of the state barring - Mango, Neem, Sal, Mahua and Khair trees - have been allowed and do not require any permission. Similarly, felling of trees by farmers on private land in 13 districts of the state barring - Mango, Neem, Sal, Mahua, Khair Sagaon and Sheesham - have been allowed and do not require any permission," an official release said.
The UP government has also come up with a Mukhyamatri Krishak Dhan Yojana, which seeks to promote plantation on the fields of small and marginalised farmers, Mukhyamantri Samudayaki Vaniki Yojana, which under MNREGS seeks to increase the income of village panchayats through plantation on community land, and Mukhyamantri Fallodyaan Yojana, which pertains to plantation of fruit-bearing trees.
