Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan today directed officials to take prompt steps at the local level in all cases of eve-teasing, and warned that stern action would be taken against those who would fail to do so.
"It should be ensured that steps are taken promptly on reports relating to eve-teasing at the local level itself," the Chief Secretary, who presided over a meeting on the state's law and order situation, said.
Police station in-charges would be held responsible if prompt action is not taken in such incidents, and departmental action would be initiated against those found lax, he said.
Ranjan laid stress on adopting better working pattern for improving the law and order situation of the state.
An official statement, quoting the Chief Secretary, said he has asked officials to prepare a road map for modernisation of the police force for improving its functioning and making it more transparent, and instructed them to present detailed project within 15 days.
The Chief Secretary also instructed officials to complete necessary formalities for filling up all vacant posts including those of chowkidars, the statement added.
Principal Secretary (Home) Deepak Singhal, Director General of Police A N Bannerji and other senior police officers were present in the meeting.
