Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today convened a meeting here and directed senior officials to put a ban on cow smuggling, and "warned that no laxity will be tolerated" in this regard.
The details of the meeting were divulged by Siddharth Nath Singh and Shrikant Sharma, the two UP ministers entrusted with the task of acting as an interface between the government and the media.
Singh, while talking to news persons after a meeting of chief minister and his cabinet colleagues at the Lok Bhawan here, said that Adityanath has "directed complete ban on cow smuggling".
The chief minister also asked the officials to review the security granted to some leaders by the previous government and made it clear that it will not be merely used as status symbol. Security will be extended only to those who actually need it, Sharma said.
Adityanath today checked the hygiene of his office in the secretariat annexe and directed that consumption of paan masala and paan will be banned at public places, Sharma said, adding that no chief minister in the past 40 years had done the inspection of this kind earlier.
The last one to do the same was Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, he said.

Stressing that law and order is the top priority of the BJP government, he said that all-out efforts will be made to ensure safety and security of women and girls.
Sharma said that in order to give momentum to the administrative machinery which has been lying in a limbo, a citizen charter will be made and a file index will be prepared so as to ensure that all the files are cleared in seven days. Strict action will be taken against those responsible for the delay, he added.
"The chief minister has desired that since the mandate is for all-round development of the state, the ministers should give full time to their departments and prepare a road map.
The chief minister has asked the ministers to make a beginning from their side by bringing a change in their behaviour and not follow the traditions of the previous government.
Giving a clarification on the "anti-Romeo" squads of policemen, which faced criticism in from some quarters, Singh said that it will be ensured that innocent people are not troubled or harassed in its name.
"The idea is to extend security to women and girls and not harass people....Girl and boys sitting at public places will not be harassed just in the name of anti romeo squad," he said, adding such squads will be set up at the thana level.
Taking an initiative against noise pollution, the chief minister has also requested the ministers to refrain from using hooter and siren in their vehicles.
