Rafiq, the sub-inspector who was posted in Firozabad district, had seized registration certificate (RC) of a truck during a vehicle-checking drive in Agra few years ago and accordingly made a fake number plate, they said.
Later, he along with his accomplices, used to take trucks on rent and then change its original number plates with the one he had possessed.
Thereafter, the accused used to approach transport companies for loading heaviest items into his truck, which instead of dispatching to its desired destination used to be taken to some other places, where he used to sold those items.
Police have also recovered two mobile phones, a blue beacon, a car, a service pistol, nine live cartridges and a police uniform from their possession.
Further probes are on, they added.
