Taking a serious view of increasing incidents of attack on doctors and para medical staff, Uttar Pradesh government has promulgated an ordinance to make such incidents a cognisable offence.
If proved guilty, those attacking doctors or para-medical staff could be awarded jail term up to three years and also a fine up to Rs 50,000, as per the ordinance promulgated yesterday, an official spokesman said today.
Welcoming the decision, Provincial Medical Services Association President Ashok Yadav hoped that now the doctors will be able to serve patients with full dedication.
Yadav said that the ordinance cover all doctors, including private ones.
