"We have directed banks to ensure special alertness to check circulation of fake currency (FICN) and emphasise on security of ATMs installed on the Indo-Nepal border", Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan said.

He was replying to a question raised by Congress member Mukesh Srivastav alias Gyanendra Pratap in the Assembly.

The minister also accepted that cases of fake notes from bank ATMs have also come to the light and added that suggestions have been given to the RBI for not allowing money into ATMs manually and deploy guards there after their character verification.

The minister said that the state government was also going to direct the police to not only nab those caught with FICN but also nab the sources from where they got it.

Khan said that it was not true that the number of cases of fake currency were on the rise in the state.
