The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Home Devashish Banda, Uttar Pradesh DGP Jagmohan Yadav among others to discuss the law and order situation in Moradabad and Bareilly divisions ahead of the Panchayat elections on October 9, a release said.
Banda said that all precautionary measures have been taken for a peaceful election.
"We are paying special attention on sensitive villages and anti-social elements. We have detained all the history sheeters to prevent any untoward incident during the elections," he said.
On being quizzed about the Dadri incident, where a 200-strong mob killed a man, accused of consuming beef recently in Greater Noida, the UP DGP said, "The investigation is on and we are taking all measures to retain normalcy."
50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was bludgeoned to death by a mob in a village in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh on Delhi's outskirts earlier this week, following rumours that he and his family had slaughtered a calf and eaten its meat as a "pre-planned murder" because of the victim's religious persuasion.
