As per directions issued by Chief Secretary Javed Usmani at a meeting here yesterday, the district-level committees should comprise the concerned District Magistrate, Chief Medical Officer and transport officers as members.
A control room with toll free numbers should also be operationalised to ensure that people in such situations can call for help.
Usmani also asked to deploy round-the-clock ambulances, to be maintained by the Health department, at key points on the highways and arrangement of cranes to clear the route in case of an accident.
