UP Governor sends back Lokayukta file to state govt

UP Governor Ram Naik today returned the file concerning the appointment of a new Lokayukta in Uttar Pradesh to the state government, for want of "more information."
The Governor today returned the file concerning the appointment of new Lokayukta seeking some information, a Raj Bhawan release issued here said.
Naik has desired that the files containing the communication between chief justice of Allahabad High Court and leader of opposition in state legislative assembly for the selection of the Lokayukta be sent to him soon for a quick decision, the release said.
The Chief Minister, leader of opposition and chief justice of Allahabad High Court are members of the committee for selecting the Lokayukta.
Earlier on Tuesday, the state cabinet had unanimously favoured the appointment of justice (retd) Raveendra Singh as the new Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh after discussing the issue at length and the file in this regard was sent to the Raj Bhawan yesterday.
Sources that the file did not contain the recommendation of chief justice for appointment of the new Lokayukta.
