Taking a strong note of instances of unauthorised use of the National Emblem in Uttar Pradesh, Governor Ram Naik today warned of action against its wrongful usage on writing materials.
"It has come to the knowledge of the Governor that some persons are using National Emblem against rules for correspondence on their letter pads and other writing materials," an official spokesman said.
"Taking note of such instances, the Governor has said that other than those authorised, people should not use the Emblem according to the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act," he added.
The violation of the provision, Naik said, could attract two years imprisonment or penalty of upto Rs 5,000 or both.
As per the restrictions in the Act, former Ministers, MPs, MLAs, retired judges and officers cannot use the government symbol on letter pad or any other writing material.
Similarly, any commission, committee, public sector enterprise, bank, local body, panchayat raj institutions, non-government organisations, university, association or body of persons cannot use the National symbol without authorisation.
