In a welcome move for residents of Ghaziabad, the Uttar Pradesh government has given its nod for plying of radio taxis in the city.
Residents of Noida and Greater Noida, however, would have to wait till they get a chance to hop on to radio cabs.
Travelling in auto-rickshaw, which is the mainstay of the transport scene in National Capital Region, is gradually becoming costly and unsafe for women.
The move will help daily commuters and those travelling in odd hours of the night, said a Ghaziabad resident.
As per the district transport department's plan, a ride in radio cabs would cost Rs 50 for the first 2.5 km, and thereafter Rs 20 per kilometer.
Waiting charge has been fixed at Rs 50 for an hour.
