Uttar Pradesh government today favoured stringent laws to deal with the issue of food adulteration.
While replying to a question by BJP's Suresh Rana in the state Assembly, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan said that more stringent laws were needed to deal with food adulteration, but this has to be done by the Centre.
"Bring a stringent law and let achhey din (good days) start," Khan said taking a dig at the BJP.
"I am of the view that capital punishment should be given ... Only Centre can formulate the law and we will implement it," he said, adding that the state cabinet has already decided on invoking National Security Act on adulterators.
Stressing that exemplary punishment was needed, the minister also cited China's example where adulterators were hanged.
