The Uttar Pradesh government is mulling to establish the police commissionerate system in important districts of the state, Director General of Police (DGP) O P Singh said today.
The officer said a detailed proposal has been sent to the government for approval.
The commissionerate system can be established in Ghaziabad, Noida and some other districts, he told reporters after a meeting with police officials here.
The DGP said once a commissionerate is established the number of police personnel required will increase by three times. Currently, there is a shortage of 1.30 lakh personnel in the state, he said.
One lakh police personnel are supposed to be recruited this year, Singh said.
He added that in circle headquarter police stations, three additional station house officers have been posted.

They will look after crime, administration and law and order in the area under the guidance of a head SHO of the police station, the officer said.
On the law and order situation in the state, the DGP said more than 6,000 criminals, who were bailed out from the courts, again opted for imprisonment after terminating their bails.
Singh said around 5,000 criminals have been sent to jail and 5o dreaded criminals were shot dead during encounters in the state. Police teams had fired on them in retaliation, he said.
The police response time has come down from 23 minutes to 14 minutes after Dial 100 was introduced. The department is now trying to cut it to 10 minutes, the DGP said.
Now victims of chain, mobile phone or purse snatching can lodge their FIRs without going to police station. Dial FIR is the pilot project of Ghaziabad police to provide relief.
