UP govt removes incharge of Women Power Line

Acting tough on allegations of harassment levelled by a girl against the incharge of Women Power Line - 1090, Uttar Pradesh government today removed Kunwar Raghvendra Pratap Singh from the post and ordered an inquiry into the matter.
The state government took a serious view of the girl's complaint and immediately removed him from the post and sent him back to his original department Radio headquarters, a Home department official said.
IG (Women Power Line) Navneet Sikera has ordered the inquiry, he said.
The Women Power Line is a UP-based helpline for women and girls to register complaints of phone harassment and other forms of sexual harassment.

The government took note of news in a section of media today that Singh made calls from his personal phone number to the girl, chatted with her on WhatApp and also called her to meet outside in connection with the case for which she had approached the powerline.
"The government is very serious on the issue of women security and is committed to take prompt and stern action in all such cases," the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, BJP said one should not expect any protection to women from SP government as ruling party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav says "boys are boys, they make mistakes" in reference to rape.

"...In such a situation expecting protection for women is meaningless," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

BJP spokesman Dr Chandramohan said though women power line is among the ambitious schemes of the Akhilesh Yadav government, this incident goes on to prove its efficacy.
"It proves how the scheme claiming to protect the security of women is functioning in the state and how the government is using such a scheme to provide a safe posting for its favourite officials to remain in the state capital", he said citing how the IG Navneet Sikera and Singh have managed to stay in Lucknow since long without being disturbed by the transfer process.
