UP govt to launch housing scheme, set up tiger force

The Cabinet at its meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, here also decided to launch a housing scheme for minorities and slum dwellers and set up a special tiger protection force.

The Cabinet decided to merge Gautam Buddha Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University to re-establish the UP Technical University (UPTU), an official spokesman said.

The decision has been taken in the interest of students and to bring uniformity on technical points, he said.

The spokesman said all institutes affiliated with the two universities will automatically deemed to be affiliated with UPTU.

The previous Mayawati government had split the UP Technical University into Gautam Buddha Techincal University and Mahamaya Technical University.

The Cabinet approved a proposal to set up a special tiger protection force for Duwdhwa Tiger Reserve.

The proposed force, intended to check poaching, will have 112 personnel, the spokesman said.

As promised in its election manifesto, the SP-led government approved a proposal to provide motorised solar or battery operated rickashwas free of cost.

In the current fiscal, a budgetory provision of Rs 100 crore has been made and rickshaw-pullers registered with the local body will be selected, the spokesman said. MORE
