UP govt to organise 'Wazan Diwas' to fight malnutrition
Press Trust of India Mathura Uttar Pradesh government has decided to organise 'Wazan Diwas' (Weighing Day) on September 7 and 10 to identify children with inadequate diet in a bid to fight malnutrition in the state.
The drive to weigh children up to 5-years of age would be carried out at various Anganwadi centres to get an idea about their current state of nourishment enabling their proper care.
District Magistrate of Mathura Rajesh Kumar said, "'Wazan Diwas' would be observed in the district on September 7 and 10, on the lines of polio immunisation programme."
The officials tasked with carrying out this programme have undergone training at a workshop to ensure its success, he said.
On 'Wazan Diwas', children up to 5-years of age have to be brought to the Anganwadi Centres and will be weighed so that an updated data about the number of undernourished children can be registered to fight malnutrition effectively, Kumar said.
