The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested a person in connection with the murder of a teacher's association leader in 2016, police said today.
"The accused, a sharpshooter, was arrested last night from Aligarh for the murder of Jitender Sainger, president of Basic Shikhsha Sangh (BSS), in Dhanipur on December 19 last year," STF SP Rajiv Narain Mishra said here.
There was another person involved in the shooting of Sainger. He has surrendered in a different case, the SP said.
Mishra claimed that during interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.
"Sainger's murder was planned by Neeru Tiger, who is serving a jail-term. He was arrested for the murder of a candidate in the 2015 UP Gram Panchayat election," he said.
The officer said Sainger was a witness in the case and "he was being pressurised to change his statement".
"When he refused, Tiger planned his murder," he said.
