The Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) will soon get sophisticated weapons, like submachine guns, a senior official said Friday.
A recommendation for the weapons has been sent to the state government, Additional Director General (PAC) Binod Kumar Singh said.
Addressing the personnel at the 41st PAC battalion campus in Vaishali, Singh said the constabulary must help build confidence among law abiding citizens.
Singh said with changing times modern weapons were needed, especially to meet challenges posed by terrorists and during communal riots.
He said submachine guns (MP5) would be a good addition for the force. At present the PAC personnel are given self-loading rifles.
Anti-riot training will be given to PAC constables by National Security Guard-trained commandos, he said.
Singh said 18,000 constables have been recruited and they will get training by the end of October.
