UP police chief promises stern action against rioters

Giving a communal colour to petty skirmishes between two communities by vested interests will be dealt with stern hands, Director General of UP Police Jagmohan Yadav said today, adding that National Security Act (NSA) would be invoked and heavy penalties levied in such cases.
Addressing district police chiefs of Meerut Range at Harsaon police lines here, Yadav said that law and order situation, particularly in western Uttar Pradesh, is sensitive.
The senior police official said that the mixed populace of the region can be one of the reasons behind such incidents.
District police chiefs have been directed to identify such anti-social elements and book them under NSA, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or political affiliations, he told reporters.

Speaking on the issue of 'Kanwar Yatra', the DGP said that police officials of UP, Haryana, Delhi and Uttarakhand have unanimously chalked out a plan to ban the movement of vehicles playing DJs.
On being asked about the police preparedness in the wake of the Punjab terror attack, Yadav said that concerned agencies are doing their work and it is not a matter that has to be publicized.
The meeting was attended by IG (Crime) R K Swarnkar, IG (Meerut Zone) Alok Sharma, DIG (Meerut Range) Ramit Sharma, DIG (Sharanpur Range) Ashok Raghav, Senior Superintendent of Police (Meerut) Dinesh Chandra Dubey, SSP (Ghaziabad) Dharmendra Singh among others.
