UP receives moderate to heavy rainfall, major rivers in spate

Light to moderate rainfall occurred at isolated places over the eastern districts in Uttar Pradesh today while moderate to rather heavy rain and thundershowers were witnessed at isolated places over the western parts of the state.
According to Met office here, chief amount of rainfall recorded in cms are:-Saharanpur-6, Nakur-5 and Ghazipur-1.
The officials forecast rain and thundershowers would occur at few places over eastern Uttar Pradesh and isolated places over the western region.
Meanwhile Central Water Commission sources said that river Ganga was in spate from Fatehgarh to Ballia crossing the red mark at Phaphamau (Allahabad), Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia.
Yamuna continued to flow above the red mark at Hamirpur, Chillghat(Banda ) and Naini (Allahabad) and river Sharda was also flowing above the danger mark at Palia Kalan.
A report from Ballia said that with the water level of Ganga and Ghaghra rivers surging, about 52 villages have been hit as water has also submerged agricultural fields.
District magistrate of Ballia Sunil Kumar Srivasatav said that among the villages, 15 of them have been severely hit and boats were being used to rescue the stranded people.
